Melbourne is a unique community where the opportunities are abundant, the landscapes are vibrant, and neighbors are family. Unfortunately, some fall through the cracks and are left behind as Melbourne grows. Over the last 10 years, the number of housing units hasn't been able to keep pace with our growing population. When vacancy decreases, rents increase, and so do rates of homelessness. This video explores the dynamics of our city and explains why Providence Place is the solution to rising rates of unsheltered homelessness.
WHAT IS PROVIDENCE PLACE?
Providence Place is a 119-unit multi-family housing community scheduled to break ground on South Apollo Boulevard by the end of 2025 and open in the Summer of 2027. The community will include wrap-around services to help residents overcome challenges and be successful in housing.
BUILDING ON A LEGACY
When Daily Bread opened over 35 years ago, it started as a soup kitchen serving 14 meals on its first day. Today, we have expanded focus to provide what unsheltered people really need - a home, and over 400 formerly homeless individuals have been housed in recent years.
NO ONE LEFT BEHIND
While Daily Bread’s Fee Avenue campus will eventually close when Providence Place opens in 2027, the mission of “ensuring that no one faces hunger or homelessness alone” will live on with a commitment to the three pillars of food distribution, supportive housing, and homeless outreach.
